Tecniques / Activities of this speciality
Intraoperatory biopsies in the surgery
Cytological extensions:
Exfoliative
Liquid
Secretions
Biopsy samples from any provenance
Punción aspiración con aguja fina (PAAF):
In the lab
In the surgeryo
In the room
(This allows for an in situ examination of the suitability of the sample and if unsuitable allows the sample to be retaken).
FNPA under radiological/ultrasound control:
In the lab
In the surgery
In radiology
(This allows for an in situ examination of the suitability of the sample and if unsuitable allows the sample to be retaken).

Hybridisation in situ:
For the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) groups 6-11 16-18 31-35-51
Enzymatic immunohistochemistry:
Monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies commonly used in surgical pathology (intermediate filaments, keratins, hormones, leucocytes, etc.).
Hormonal receptors:
Oestrogenic hormonal receptors. ER-ICA kit.
(Recommended fresh material)
Routine biopsies: embedding in paraffin
Routine cytologies: Papanicolau
Special techniques:
nucleic acids
amyloid
carbohydrates
conjunctive
lipids
muscle
nuclear
polychromatic
Techniques that require unset tissues:
freezing
Delivery and Conservation of samples
Intraoperatory biopsies:
Please advise 24 hours in advance, stating the time.
Extended cytologies:
Set in cytospray or commercial lacquer
Study of resection margins in biopsies:
We recommend that they are oriented and marked with either paint or suture thread.
Enclosing a schema is highly useful.
Special studies:
Please contact Dr Torres in advance.
Liquids:
In a hermetically sealed contained in the refrigerator
If not, set in 50% alcohol (adding a volume similar to the volume of the sample)
Obtained via surgery:
In 10% commercial formol
Puncture aspiration:
Spread and set in cytospray or with 50% alcohol in a closed receptacle..
